Canal One burglars nabbed at Demerara Bridge checkpoint

Three men have been held after an early morning break-in at Canal One that left two teachers with thousands of dollars in losses.

According to the police yesterday, the regular presence of the police on the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge, has been very successful since its inception and a number of persons have been arrested and charged with guns and ammunition possession, and other offences.
There has also been a decrease in serious crimes in the West Demerara/East Bank Essequibo Region as a result of the exercises.
Yesterday morning, about 03:30hrs, a police team commanded by a sergeant, while conducting a stop and search exercise on the Meer-Zorgen Public Road, West Bank Demerara, at the western end of the bridge, stopped and searched a yellow wagon motorcar, its driver and two male occupants.

In it, the police found a laptop, ear-pieces, four cellular phones, an Amazon tablet, an assortment of jewels, a Guyana passport, local and foreign currencies and other items.
The vehicle and suspects were escorted to the La Grange Police Station.
By that time, there were two reports of breakages in the Canal One Polder, West Bank Demerara.
The victims, both female educators, positively identified all of the items as their property, the police said.
The suspects, who have all given several addresses each, are assisting with the investigations.
