Charity miner nabbed with unlawful gun, ammo gets two years
A miner who was recently charged with unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition, was on Monday fined and sentenced to two years imprisonment for the offence.
Reinaldo Wells, 23, of the Charity Extension Scheme, Essequibo Coast, made an appearance before Magistrate Esther Sam in the Charity Magistrate Court. The first charge read to Wells stated that on the 16th November, he unlawfully had in his possession a 9mm pistol. The second charge read that on the same day in question, the accused also unlawfully possessed ammunition.
Wells pleaded guilty to both charges and was sentenced to two years each. The sentences will run concurrently. The accused was also fined $50,000.
