American Airlines begins service to Guyana

American Airlines made its initial landing at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) Thursday evening as it began its services to Guyana.
The commencement of the airline’s schedule between Miami and Georgetown came just months after it announced an intention to enter the Guyana market. The airline intends to do four weekly return flights between Miami and Guyana.
The aircraft landed on schedule and to mark the occasion there was a short ceremony.
In attendance at the ceremony which was held in the Departure Lounge of the CJIA were Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carl Greenidge; Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson; United States Ambassador to Guyana, Perry Holloway; and top aviation officials as well as American Airlines executives.
United States Ambassador to Guyana, Perry Holloway, said “The more flights and the more interaction between the people of our two countries, allows for greater cooperation and for us to work more closely together on things of mutual interest.”
In joining Guyana’s market the airline intends to expose travellers from Guyana to its world class service.
American Airlines flies to more than 150 destinations across the United States and around the world. Guyana is now the 19th American Airline destination to South America.
