Members of the Guyana Police Force came under fire during a raid on marijuana farms at Kimbia, located in the Berbice River.
Police said in a release that the suspects, who were at the Kimbia location, discharged several rounds at police officers before making good their escape in the thick vegetation.
The release stated that ranks in Divisions ‘B’ and ‘G’ conducted two drug eradication exercises in the area and Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast respectively.
During the exercises, approximately eight acres of cultivated cannabis with about 7,600 plants ranging in height from five inches to six feet were found, along with 82 kilograms of processed cannabis were discovered.
During the one week exercise, the plants, dried cannabis and six makeshift camps on the cultivation were destroyed by fire. Sample of the cannabis were obtained before the plants were destroyed.
The prohibited plants had an average weight of 15,025 kilograms.
