Dextroy Pollard, a prison escapee who was on the run for almost two weeks was yesterday recaptured at Free and Easy Village on the West Bank of Demerara.
The Guyana Police Force stated that it wished to commend “the brave and courageous action by an individual” for handing over the escapee to law enforcement officials.
The force added that the action of the man is a testimony that the Force is gaining the public $%ñ–s trust; and encourages others to assist in the apprehension for those still at large.
Pollard, 29 of Wales Village was on remand for break and enter and larceny.
According to reports, Pollard and three others escaped from the Lusignan jail by scaling the wall around 04:30 hrs on October 15 last.
Travis Evans, 23, of ‘C’ Field Sophia, who was in prison for murder was recaptured on October 19 last, at Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.
Still at large is Sudesh Dyal, 23 who was on remand for break and entry and larceny.
It was reported that the escape occurred between towers two and three, which at the time had a number of ranks who inexplicably failed to foil the escape.
The Director of Prison Gladwin Samuels had indicated that the ranks were most likely asleep, giving the close proximately of the two towers and the number of ranks deployed in those two towers were not alerted.
The three prisoners were being kept in the holding bay of the Lusignan prison which was created to keep prisoners after the Camp Street prison was burned down last year.
