The most modern Transport and Harbours Department ferry stelling exists at Bartica. Generally, the ferry stellings are wooden structures with flooring made from huge greenheart planks. The Bartica Ferry Stelling is different.
The contract for the new stelling was awarded to Courtney Benn Contracting Services. Rather than the traditional wooden structures, this one is made of concrete. It also contains a shopping mall and other stalls which would provide Transport and Harbours Department with sources of additional revenue. And the floor is tiled.
For the first time it also boast two floors, with the upper floor containing a viewing gallery.
The second phase of the stelling will see the extension northward to cater for storage bonds. The completed phase has mooring facilities for the speedboats that operate between Bartica and Parika.
The construction of the modern stelling coincides with Bartica being designated a town.
