53 graduate from Bartica’s Board of Industrial Training

The Board of Industrial Training, a skill-training programme under the Ministry of Social Protection, held its annual graduation ceremony at Bartica on Wednesday, where more than fifty students graduated in various fields.
Delivering the feature address, Minister of Public Affairs, within the Ministry of the Presidency, Dawn Hastings, provided encouragement to the graduating class by sharing success stories of persons who failed early in life, but did not give up.
She admonished the students to adopt an attitude of service, self-love, social cohesion and integrity.
“Serving others is the greatest gift to humanity,” she stressed.
The Minister also made specific mention to some of the plans and visions of President David Granger.
“One of the visions of His Excellency is that the hinterland can develop with the same rhythm as the coastland,” the Minister stated.
Giving the charge to the graduating class, Penelope Harris of the Board of Industrial Training, spoke about the importance of developing skills training, especially in light of the impending oil and gas industry.
She congratulated the young men and women, and encouraged them on to higher heights.
A total of fifty-three students received diplomas for training in various skill fields, including welding & fabrication, mechanic & repairs, cake decoration, catering and information technology.
Also gracing the occasion were Regional Chairman Gordon Bradford, Mayor of Bartica; Gifford Marshall, local tutor for the Board of Industrial Training, Sheon Wilson, and Hope Foundation’s Ivor Melville.
The training programme at Bartica is a collaboration between the Ministry of Social Protection, the Regional Democratic Council, Region 7 (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) and Hope Foundation.
