Two men were yesterday remanded by Magistrate Charlyn Artiga in connection with the recent Cromarty, Berbice home invasion in which a father and son were attacked.
Delroy Parks called ‘Jaja’, 30, and a father of three children of Cromarty Village and Nathan Dhuki called ‘Angle’, 30, of Phillipi Farm were charged with robbery under arms.
It is alleged that on Tuesday 9th October, 2018 at Cromarty Village, while armed with a gun and in the company of another, robbed Deeraj Kumar of $280,000. They were not required to plead.
Prosecutor Lennox Poliah stated that there was one eyewitness. He also said that bail should be refused because of the prevalence of the offence and the fact that a weapon was used.
The victim had also told the police that he identified both men, the prosecutor said. Magistrate Artiga questioned if any firearm was recovered and if the accused were checked for gunpowder residue.
However, the prosecutor stated that the men were not dusted for gunpowder residue because the gun was reportedly not fired and no weapon was recovered.
Meanwhile both men told the court that they were at home when the robbery occurred. Bail was subsequently refused and they were remanded to prison until the 1st November.
Parks and Dhuki were arrested on Wednesday following a robbery that was committed at grocery shop at Cromarty Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
The victims, Deeraj Kumar and his son Balram Kumar are admitted to the Anamayah Memorial Hospital after they were beaten and allegedly shot at.
Balram Kumar, the twenty four year old was shot to the face and battered by one of the men who was armed with a handgun while his father, Deeraj Kumar was broadsided in his head and about his body by another bandit armed with a cutlass.
Asha Kumar, the businessman’s wife said she was preparing dinner for her son when she heard her husband moaning in pain.
She immediately stopped what she was doing and ran to the back door.
She took refuge in her backyard after seeing the men.
The intruders allegedly escaped with $280,000 and a hand band her son was wearing.
