Forty-year old, Royston James, of 15 West Front Road, Ruimveldt, appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman, on Tuesday, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that on August 1, last, at Sussex Street, he had in his possession a firearm revolver when he was not a holder of a firearm license at the time.
James pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor indicated that on the day in question relative to a report of an alleged robbery under arms on Croal Street, police were able to view CCTV footage which showed the robber wearing a black jersey being a pillion rider on a black motor bike. He was armed with a silver handgun.
On the same day at approximately 13:00hrs a police patrol vehicle was passing through Leopold Street where they saw the defendant on the black motor bike wearing the same clothing that was recorded on the CCTV footage.
The defendant observed the police and rode away. Police gave chase and caught the defendant in Sussex Street where the firearm was found in his possession.
The Magistrate after listening to the prosecutor’s submission remanded James to prison. This case is schedule to continue on August 27.
