This publication understands that the workshop is set to facilitate social workers, welfare officers, NGOs, Youth Workers and representatives from the faith-based Organisations.
The facilitator, Mr. Ren Gonzales, said that the objective of the workshop is to train these participants in dealing with substance abuse. Gonzales noted that participants will be equipped with the various prevention mechanisms, to not only curb, but to also avoid substance abuse in various communities.
He further explained that the workshop is based on cultivation interviewing and relapse prevention. The skills and strategies that they can use to prevent relapse of their clients.
“The focus is to help trainers gain some skills on drug prevention… even with the use of the brief intervention strategies. Most of our helpers may not necessarily be psychologists, they may lack the professional qualification but we will equip them with the knowledge on counselling and brief intervention methods so that we can see a change in drug addictions.”
