Police are questioning the stepfather of a 10-year-old boy who was found hanging in the family’s Fifth Street Success, East Coast Demerara home at around 12.30 hrs yesterday.
The child, Jonathan Rampersad, was found hanging by a bed sheet in his room.
Kaieteur News understands that the boy’s mother, a domestic worker, left her son and stepfather at home. The stepfather reportedly told police that he was drinking on the front step, while the lad was playing in the yard.
He reportedly said that the child eventually went inside at around 10.00 hrs. According to sources, the man said that he entered the house at around 12.30 hrs, and while passing the boy’s bedroom, saw his stepson hanging from a rafter.
He immediately raised an alarm. However, Kaieteur News understands that he waited until the boy’s mother arrived to go to the station.
The man was still in custody up to late last night.
