…family members in custody
Thirty-year-old Rajendra Lall Hira was found motionless in a toilet at his of lot 76 Sixth Street, Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara home in the wee hours yesterday. By late last evening, three family members were in custody.
Police in an early statement yesterday disclosed, “Investigators discovered marks of violence around the deceased’s neck, and an autopsy conducted on Monday morning revealed that he died from compression injuries to the neck. Three persons have been taken into custody including the grandparents and an uncle of Hira. Investigations revealed from the grandfather that the victim who is an alcoholic went home about 01:30hrs intoxicated and about 05:30hrs was discovered seated motionless on an inside toilet. There is no sign of forced entry into the home.”
A source who knows the family said the now dead man was very abusive to family members when he would drink alcohol.
And the Police issued an updated statement last evening, with the following information, “Please be informed that the uncle who is in custody along with two pensioners for the murder of the Anna Catherina, WCD resident Rajendra Lall Hira this (yesterday) morning, have late this evening admitted to have strangled the victim. Investigators are compiling the case file for legal advice tomorrow (today).”
