Dear Editor,
The statement issued by the Ministry of the Presidency on the media availability of the President is pure poppy-cock!
Granger had made it clear that he does not like the media and has made many remarks indicative of his dislike for the media. Running for office is one thing when you want the media to spread your word, but when that office is attained then the media becomes scary and have to be kept at bay.
We have seen that in full display.
My other comments are: 1. “The David Granger led administration since its assumption to office has been nothing but transparent and accountable to the citizens….”
Totally and completely false as neither transparency nor accountability were evident.
Remember that arising out of complaints that ministers were unreachable, the party made arrangements for ministers to spend each week a few hours at party headquarters to meet with constituents. That was a one off deal. From that ordered interaction, Granger kept himself aloof! and did not make himself available.
1. “I am asking the media to be tolerant”. So how long is this ‘tolerance request to last?’
Seems to be interminable as a lot of time has passed.
2. “I have had a really difficult period of public engagements and overseas travel,”
What? Is there no official charged with the duties to schedule the president’s availability and itinerary?
This is the most ridiculous excuse preferred! Makes school kids’ excuses more mature.
3. “… reiterated the President’s commitment to engaging the members of the media, whom he holds in high esteem…” This is a joke and a big one at that.
The media can well remember the scolding they got in the past.
The President is known to fear the media because he has made comments and has done acts that raised serious implications, so he simply cowered and kept to himself… check-check the GECOM, Chief Justice, and the over 80s age barrier!
In my opinion, the President lacks the skills of public speaking in that he is not glib, seems to have vocal problems and does not sound certain of what he is saying.
Definitely not a dynamic speaker.
The result? Best to stay away from the media!
