Fisherman killed by drinking buddy pushes disorderly murders to 45
Disorderly murders climbed to 45 on Saturday after a fisherman was stabbed to death by a drinking buddy at Kumaka Water Front, North West District.
Police identified the victim as Elroy Marks, a fisherman of Aruka River, North West District and also of Dartmouth, Essequibo Coast. The suspect is a 43-year old labourer of Hotoquai Village, North West District who has since been detained.
Investigations revealed that Marks and the suspect who were known to each other, were imbibing at a shop when an argument ensued. This escalated into a fight in which the suspect allegedly broke a bottle and stabbed Marks to the neck.
The fisherman was rushed to the Mabaruma Regional Hospital, in an unconscious state where he succumbed whilst receiving treatment about 20:55 hours on Saturday.
The body is presently at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination
Last Friday, police revealed that there were 44 murders in six months.
The statistics showed that there was a 25 percent decrease in murder, with 59 for the same period last year.
Of the 44 homicides recorded, 20 were disorderly murders, 12 domestic-related murders and eight robbery-murders, while the motive in four cases was unknown.
