GRA denies seizing luxury SUV from businessman

The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has refuted claims by a businessman, that the tax agency seized his Nissan Armada SUV valued some $18M.
Commissioner General of GRA, Godfrey Statia, said yesterday that the vehicle is not in their possession.
This revelation comes one day after police said that businessman, Sarwat Tatsie, told detectives that his vehicle was repossessed by GRA.
Police were at the time responding to an article titled ‘Businessman returns to Guyana to (find) household items, vehicle missing’ which was published in Sunday’s edition.
According to the statement issued by the police, “The businessman later informed detectives probing the case that the vehicle mentioned in the article was not stolen but rather repossessed by the Guyana Revenue Authority.”
Tatsie of Earl’s Court, La Bonne Intention, East Coast Demerara, had said that he came back to Guyana from Canada last week Friday and found his vehicle missing along with millions of dollars in household items.
Tatsie, who owns and operates Kishan’s Aluminium Windows & Doors at Good Hope on the East Coast Demerara, said he left Guyana on June 12, for Canada.
The man said that he discovered his vehicle missing and his house broken into. A number of items were missing. He had said that the missing household items and tools included three television sets, one music set, and a number of electric tools; all valued in excess of $2.5 million.
The businessman had said that the Nissan Armada SUV had registration number PPP 7456. He had said that he believes individuals broke into his house, then loaded the items into his vehicle and left, since the vehicle is one of only five in Guyana, and there is little that can be done with it.
