BCB hosts Rhonda Lewis Memorial Tournament for Lower Corentyne Teams

The efforts of newly elected President of the Berbice Cricket Board Hilbert Foster to play cricket as never before in the Ancient County, continues to bear fruit. Foster, who is spearheading an aggressive campaign to attract sponsors, disclosed on Friday last that overseas based Guyanese Lindon Lewis and his family would be hosting a 20/20 cricket tournament for teams in the Lower Corentyne area. The Tournament would be played in memory of Rhonda Lewis, Lindon Lewis eldest child who died of cancer on the 3rd July, 2006, at the tender age of 16.
The Tournament would be played by teams between No. 1 Road to No. 42 Village on the Corentyne Coast. The teams expected to participate are No. 1, Fyrish Road, Fyrish, Chesney, Jai Hind, Albion, Toopoo, Belvedere United, Tamarind Root, Rose Hall Town Bakewell, Port Mourant, Tain Block Four, Rose Hall Town Tigers, Big Star, Kildonan and Ramnarine Memorial. The Tournament would be played on a Knock-Out basis and would be played on Wednesday afternoons due to the packed schedule of the Berbice Cricket Tournament. The finals would be played at the Hampshire Cricket Ground on the 20th October, 2018 from 13:00 hours and the Lewis family is expected to be present.
Foster disclosed that only players who played for Clubs in other 2018 Tournaments would be allowed to play for them, while only Berbicians would play.
Teams are also reminded that all players would be required to be properly attired in white uniforms while no form of indiscipline would be tolerated. Walkovers shall be granted half hour after the schedule start of play if any team fails to turn up, while teams shall forfeit their right to the toss if they fail to be present at toss time.
The Berbice Cricket Board President expressed gratitude to Lindon Lewis and family for their sponsorship of the Tournament. Foster reassured the family that he will personally make sure that the event is properly organised and is completed on time. The Rhonda Lewis Memorial 20/20 is the third tournament to be secured for Lower Corentyne teams after the Magic Moments 20/20 and Raffik Construction 100 Balls Tournaments. Foster, stated that no one can complain about the lack of cricket as was the case in the past and disclosed that more tournaments would be unveiled for New Amsterdam/Canje and West Berbice teams shortly. Once the weather improves, the Berbice Cricket Board would also be hosting cricket at the Under-15, Under-17, Under-19, Unde-21, Female, Secondary School, Intermediate, Second Division, First Division and Zone levels.
Lindon Lewis stated that he was pleased to be associated with the current Berbice Cricket Board administration and expressed full confidence that the tournament in memory of his late daughter would exceed all expectations. He committed himself to a long term relationship with Berbice Cricket, Rhonda Lewis memorial T20 competition 2018.
