One week after a Cummings Lodge miner was charged for stabbing his friend about his face, neck and shoulders, he was yesterday slapped with two fraud related charges.
Forty-two-year-old Chatterpaul Singh, also known as Kevin Singh, appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The first charge alleged that on April 23 at Georgetown, he received $240,000 on the account of Richard Singh, fraudulently converted the money to his own use and benefit.
It was further alleged that on March 24 at Georgetown, he received $600,000 on the account of Richard Singh, fraudulently converted same to his own use and benefit.
The defendant denied both allegations after they were read to him by the Magistrate.
The man’s lawyer in an application to secure bail for his client told the court that Singh is the father of two minor children and if bail is granted, he will return to court for the trial.
Police Prosecutor, Sanj Singh, had no objection to bail being granted to the defendant but asked that conditions be attached.
The Magistrate after listening to the prosecutor submission granted the defendant bail in the sum of $200,000.
He was instructed to make his next court appearance on July 13 for report.
Last week, Singh appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where an attempted murder charge was read to him.
He was not required to plead to the charge, which alleged that on July 4, 2016 at Sheriff Street, with intent to murder, he wounded Chatanand Persaud.
However, after the charge was read, the virtual complainant in the matter told the Magistrate that he no longer wished to proceed with the matter.
Magistrate Latchman released him on $100,000 bail and instructed the alleged victim to give the police a statement.
According to information, Persaud was at a restaurant with a female friend when Singh approached him from behind with a knife and began to stab him about his face, neck and shoulders before making good his escape.
The wounded man was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital before being transferred to a private hospital where he was admitted. The victim then underwent surgery .
