Monitoring devices installed at GWI’s pump stations across the country can now instantly email or text message officials if there is low water pressure.
Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) Executive Director of Operations, Dwayne Shako told the Department of Public Information that through the installation of logger devices, GWI can effectively manage each of its 141 water stations.
“Rather than waiting for customers to call and say they are not receiving water, we will have an early indication that something is wrong at that station and then we can do a quick intervention,” he said in a statement from government,
He explained that that each logger is set to monitor a specific pound per square inch (PSI) for each station.
Once it falls below that mark, GWI’s staff will be alerted via e-mail and a text message.
“We have installed 78 of these loggers right now. The entire Region Four is complete, the entire Region Three is complete….we have some at Linden, but we are hoping by mid-August that we would complete the entire 141 stations which would allow us now to better monitor these stations.”
The system is also web-based which allows for effective monitoring from any part of the world with an accurate representation of what happened at the station and its present status.
GWI said that the implementation of the supervisory control and data acquisition system is another step in its efforts to ensure that all customers get the best service available.
