Caribbean Airlines is delighted to be the “Official Airline” with the Department of Social Cohesion, Culture, Youth and Sport for the upcoming Flag Concert to commemorate the 52nd Anniversary of Independence. This was communicated in a statement from the regional airline.
The Flag Concert takes place tonight in historic Georgetown at the Stabroek Square and will feature performances by some of Guyana’s leading musicians. The event will end with a splendid fireworks display at midnight. Caribbean Airlines is also supporting Guyana’s Independence celebrations in New York.
Chief Executive Officer, Garvin Medera stated: “Caribbean Airlines is happy to be the Official Airline and to share in the celebration of Guyana’s 52nd Anniversary of Independence both in Guyana and New York. We continue to enjoy a legacy of cooperation with the Government and people of Guyana and the Guyanese Diaspora in providing consistent and reliable service.”
Andrew Tyndall – Administrator, National School of Music, Ministry of the Presidency, Department of Culture stated: “We are pleased that Caribbean Airlines has joined us in the celebration of our nationhood. Independence is far more consequential than merely marking the end of imperial rule.
“It gave Guyana its own national identity; it is opened to a new future characterized by our own unique symbols of nationhood- the flag, the national anthem, all hallmarks of a sovereign state. Independence gave citizens a sense of belonging and paved the way for Guyanese to enjoy the freedoms that come with a self-ruled, democratic nation.
“It gave Guyanese a right to self-determination. The celebration of the anniversary of our Independence, therefore, is an opportunity to revel in the freedoms we enjoy and a time to reflect on the progress we have made. More than that though, our 52nd Anniversary of Independence is another milestone, as we press ahead as a united people working to secure a good future for the nation’s children.”
Rickford Burke, Chairman, Guyana Independence Anniversary Celebration Committee (New York) added, “Caribbean Airlines has been a trusted partner of our Committee and dependable friend of the Guyanese people.
“The company has always been supportive of our organization and the Guyanese community at large; especially when we need them most. Since their start in 2007, CAL’s service to our country and the Diaspora has been unwavering and reliable; even when it was the single international carrier over our skies.
“We are thankful for their confidence in our Committee and celebration, and are proud of our partnership. We encourage everyone visiting New York for our celebration to fly with Caribbean Airlines – the official airline of the Guyana Independence celebration in New York, June 3 – 16, 2018. Celebrate Guyana to the World!”
Caribbean Airlines operates at least six daily flights in and out of Guyana.
