Long time a court was a place wheh people use to frighten to even walk past. And if a man had to go to court he would put on he best clothes, shine he shoes, and look very sharp. Now times change. De only thing people don’t do is to go in de court wid three-quarter pants and tear-up jeans.
Dem boys hear something else happen. A lawyer was in court texting a magistrate.
Imagine de magistrate, before he listen to de case, he busy pun he phone texting wid de lawyer who defending de people who commit de crime.
Imagine de text reading, “You got to free me clients.”
De Magistrate gun test back, “What’s in it fuh me?”
Wha dem didn’t bargain for was people in de court had phones too, suh dem tek out de lawyer photo texting de magistrate and de magistrate texting back. De poor magistrate nearly lost he wuk. Is only because de Judicial Service Commission sorry fuh him mek he still got a job. But he had to run and lef de case.
De lawyer had de nerve to appeal. He go to de High Court fuh protest because as far as he concern de magistrate got to stay pun de case. Dem High Court judge didn’t mek joke wid de lawyer.
Is de same thing another lawyer who claim that a judge give he client too big a sentence. He file a protest.
But dem boys seh de stupidness don’t only happen in Guyana. Two prisoners get away from a jail in Colombia. Dem get de prison officer drunk then dem tell him that dem want to go pun de road to buy more likker. Imagine de guard open de prison gate and de two men gone.
Guyana got prison guards like that, but most of dem would let de man go if somebody hand over a small piece.
One prison warden use to let prisoners go home and sleep, provided dem come back in de morning. All dem had to do was to lef couple case of Guinness fuh him.
Talk half and watch how prisoners running things.
