(Kaieteur News) – Dem politician tun like de man wah went to de doctor. He tell de doctor, “Doctor, I gat a serious memory loss problem.”
De doctor ask, “How long yuh gat dis problem?”
De man look at him and seh, “Wha problem?”
De doctor tell he, “You need help!”
De man seh, “Help fuh wha? I come here to renew my driver’s licence!”
Thing happen just de other day and some politicians develop sudden amnesia. Dem tun fuhgetful. Dem can’t remember. Dem short-term memory gone shorter than a piece of rope cut by a contractor trying to save money!
Ask dem who sign something, and dem claiming dem don’t know wha dem sign, when dem sign, or who was standing up next to dem when dem sign. If dem could, dem woulda blame de pen!
Is suh when yuh nah want answer question. Yuh does suddenly get fuhgetful. But when election coming, dem memory does return. Dem remember every promise, every project, every dollar dem claim dem spend. Funny how memory does work overtime when votes involved, but go on sick leave when accountability knock at de door!
Just like de man dem boys ask how long he had short-term memory loss. He answer, “As long as I can remember.”
Dem boys remembering good, though. Dem remember who bin talking about renegotiating de ExxonMobil contract. Dem remember who bin talking about de sanctity of contract. Dem remember when renegotiation was de big thing and when suddenly everybody become a lawyer defending every comma, full stop and semicolon in de agreement.
Now, nobody can remember who promise wha! Is like everybody went to a political school where de first lesson is how to forget yesterday before breakfast.
Dem boys remember de story about Memory Man. De man had a memory like an elephant. One day, a lil girl ask he, “Wah yuh had fuh breakfast on de 4th October 1954?”
Memory Man tun to she and answer, “Eggs!”
Thirty years later, de lil girl, now a grown woman, spot Memory Man at a shop. She walk up to he and ask, “How?”
Memory Man look at she and seh, “Scrambled!”
That is memory, boys and girls! Some people can remember breakfast from seventy-two years ago, but can’t remember a contract dem sign yesterday.
Dem boys warning dem politicians: oil blocks nah like breakfast. Yuh can’t scramble de eggs and pretend yuh never crack dem. Thirty years from now, when dem boys ask who sign what and who promise what, dem hoping nobody answer, “Wha oil blocks?”
Because dem boys memory long, and dem files longer!
Talk half. Leff half.
