Region-wide training for CAPE’s Green Engineering teachers
The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) says it will be undertaking a three-day training exercise to prepare teachers to deliver the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE)’s new Green Engineering Syllabus.
The training will be held between April 4 and 6, this year in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and will see the participation of teachers from thirteen CARICOM Member and Associate Member States. According to CXC, the main objective of the boot camp is to familiarise teachers with the resources that have been recently created to support the implementation of the syllabus.
Earlier this year, educators from six Caribbean territories; Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago met in Kingston, Jamaica to develop a range of digital resources at a three-day capacity-building workshop that was intended to improve their delivery of the CAPE Green Engineering syllabus across the region.
CXC is a member of the Capacity Building and Research Thematic Working Group (TWG) of the Caribbean Sustainable Energy Roadmap and Strategy (C-SERMS) Platform and has been able to benefit from the ongoing technical assistance that is being provided by GIZ Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Technical Assistance (REETA) Programme.
The GIZ REETA programme provides technical assistance to the CARICOM Secretariat and is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The programme specifically supports the implementation of the Work Programme of the CARICOM Secretariat’s Energy Unit.
Further, the upcoming capacity-building project also directly involves the Organisation of American States (OAS) as part of the organisation’s sustainable energy sector programme.
Upon completion of the programme, participants should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the requirements of the syllabus; demonstrate an understanding of how to implement resources in the teaching and learning process and use a range of resources to support diverse assessment strategies.
They will also have an opportunity to visit one of the Caribbean’s leading Renewable Energy Laboratories – Wigton Wind Farm – where they will receive hands-on information on the different technologies used in the sector.
