(Kaieteur News) – Dozens of entrepreneurs in Essequibo, Region Two have received targeted business development training aimed at sharpening their competitiveness and market readiness, as the Small Business Bureau (SBB) continues its push to expand capacity-building support beyond the capital.
The training initiative, facilitated by the SBB, covered three key areas: Bid Document Preparation, Digital Readiness, and Label Design, each addressing practical challenges that small business owners commonly face in accessing and competing for market opportunities.

Small Business Bureau’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Shazim Ibrahim reviewing the work of a participant.
A total of 65 participants benefited from the Bid Document Preparation sessions, conducted in collaboration with the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) at the Essequibo Technical Institute. Participants were guided through the key stages of the tendering process, including understanding bid documents, meeting compliance requirements, and preparing competitive submissions.
The hands-on sessions were designed to equip small business owners with the knowledge and confidence needed to pursue government procurement contracts, an avenue that many entrepreneurs in regional communities have historically found difficult to navigate.
A further 25 participants took part in the Digital Readiness and Label Design sessions, which focused on helping entrepreneurs strengthen their branding, promotional materials, and product presentation. Practical guidance was provided on creating professional marketing materials and developing product labels that are clear, compliant, and market-ready.
Chief Executive Officer of the Small Business Bureau, Mohamed Shazim Ibrahim, underscored the importance of delivering targeted support directly to entrepreneurs in regional communities.
“Our responsibility is to ensure that small business owners, regardless of where they operate, have access to the knowledge and tools needed to compete and grow. These training programmes address practical challenges entrepreneurs face, from navigating procurement opportunities to presenting and promoting their products more professionally. By taking this support directly to Essequibo, we are helping businesses build stronger foundations and position themselves for sustainable growth,” Ibrahim said.
The SBB noted that the initiative forms part of its broader mandate to expand access to practical training and business development support across Guyana, with a focus on strengthening procurement readiness, digital capabilities, branding, and product presentation.
The agency added that the training series aligns with the Government’s wider economic agenda to support small enterprises through targeted capacity building, expanded market access, and inclusive regional development, translating budgetary allocations into tangible benefits for entrepreneurs across the country.
