Number 19 public road lit for the first time

For the first time ever, the access road, which stretches from Don Robin Farm to Bolam Turn on the Number 19 public road, Corentyne, Berbice, has street lights.
“Regional officials and motorists have welcomed the Ministry of Public Infrastructure’s installation of the street lights along the public road. Over the years, several persons have lost their lives on what had become known as the deadliest route in East Berbice – Corentyne (Region Six),” a Government release said.
According to the Regional Executive Officer (REO), Kim Williams-Stephen, the lights will reduce the road accidents in that area.
Williams-Stephen noted that many accidents would have been avoided and lives saved if the street lights had been installed earlier.
The REO added that the regional administration welcomed this and any other undertaking that serves to improve the infrastructure of the region and benefit the lives of residents.
It has been a week since the street lights have been up and motorists have expressed appreciation with the Ministry of Public Infrastructure for responding to the needs of persons using the Number 19 public road, especially at nights.
A motorist, Terry Seenichery says he is relieved that this government made the decision to address the situation. According to him, it was a struggle traversing the dark road in the evening.
Another motorist, Marvin Harvey said he is also happy with the move since the unlit roadway posed a danger to road users.
Residents were urged to care the lights and to report any acts of vandalism to the Regional Democratic Council.
