Wismar Hill other communities to get street lights

Residents of Wismar Hill, well known as Buck Hill and several communities across Linden are expected to live in much more comfort and security soon, with the installation of street lights.
This is thanks to the intervention of APNU Parliamentarian Jermaine Figuiera.
Figuiera pointed out that Victory Valley recently became recipients of the much needed lights which has positively “transformed” the community.
He recently detailed the genesis of the initiative and his future plans to help light up communities.
The Light up project was started last December,
Figuiera said.
“After I visited several communities and made certain observations, I took it upon myself to write corporate Guyana and individuals that I know could make certain contributions.”
Figuiera said that because the lights are very expensive, several businesses and individuals were approached to lend support to the initiative, to which they responded positively.
He subsequently started distributing the lights to a few communities.
In the case of Victory Valley, the community had received street lights for the very first time.
“If you go into the Valley today you would see the difference because of this initiative. Most people would know that the Valley has been in darkness for years, so now it’s a huge transformation.”
The Regional MP said that other communities slated for street lights under the initiative include Silver Town, the Wismar Housing Scheme, Block Twenty Two, Wisroc and Amelia’s Ward. He however noted that if there are other communities that need street lights, those residents could acquire a few as a community project and he would supply the rest.
So far, 115 lights have been distributed under this initiative, for which residents have commended Figuiera.
A happy resident of Victory Valley declared, “this was long overdue. For too long we were neglected and in darkness.”
Meanwhile, Anita Elliot, a resident of Wismar Hill who could not contain her enthusiasm, took to Facebook to express her gratitude to MP Figuiera.
A few residents of Amelia’s Ward also lauded the initiative, and expressed optimism that the ball field in proximity to the old Bond Road and obliquely opposite the Toucan Mall would be lit. This, they pointed out, would help to curtail a lot of the nefarious activities that occur there at nights.
