A 12-member mixed jury was yesterday empanelled to decide on the evidence in the trial of George Dover, who is accused of attempted murder over stabbing his rival, Kester Yamster.
The incident occured at a street corner in Eccles Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, on April 10, 2015. Dover, who is being represented by Attorney-at-law George Thomas, denied the allegation when he appeared before Justice Navindra Singh at the High Court in Georgetown.
The state, which is being represented by Prosecutor Tiffini Lyken, Abigail Gibbs and Shawnette Austin will call its first witness this morning. Five witnesses, including the victim, are scheduled to testify.
It was previously reported that on the day in question a companion said he was standing at the street corner with Yamster, who was on his bike, when he saw Dover approaching them. It was further stated that the accused walked past them only to return later with a knife in his hand. There was then led to a confrontation and Yamster was stabbed to the chest and side by Dover, who fled the scene. It was alleged that the two had an old grievance over a girl.
Yamster was just 15 years of age at the time of the stabbing and was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital in a critical condition.
