Jubilant: Newly-elected, Mayor Kerry Jarvis with Deputy-Mayor, Maxine Welch-Hendricks following elections yesterday.
Border town, Lethem, has a new mayor after Carlton Beckles was voted out yesterday.
The new Mayor is Lethem businessman, Kerry Jarvis.
Jarvis was elected Mayor of Lethem, a Region Nine community which borders and links via the Takutu Bridge to neighbouring Brazil, following municipal elections held there Thursday morning.
Deputy Mayor, Maxine Welch-Hendricks, is returned.
Lethem was named a town with the Coalition Government announcing plans for the area. The plans included the development of the Linden/Lethem road,
Local government elections are being held regularly now, thanks to new laws.
For years, mayors and councils were left in place because of the absence of elections.
Beckles and Welch-Hendricks were unanimously re-elected to their positions in elections held on December 1, 2016 at the Lethem Town Hall.
