Six persons, including a female, were taken into custody yesterday afternoon by police ranks stationed at the police checkpoint at Itaballi, Puruni Road, Mazaruni River, Region 7.
This was after the lawmen found a total of 662 grams of compressed cannabis.
“Five hundred and fifty-seven (557) grams were found in a music-box belonging to one of the suspects while the remainder was found secreted inside the vehicle in which they were detained and later arrested.”
Police said that a case file has since been forwarded for advice in relation to the institution of charges.
With scores of communities, mining and logging camps in the hinterland, there is a big ganja market – that is if the seller can get it past the police checkpoints.
