Police and members of the Community stands behind the two bikes that were handed over to the Guyana Police Force by members of the Blairmont Station Management Committee at the Blairmont Police Station
The Guyana Police Force continues to be on the receiving end, as more confidence is being expressed in the work of the ranks.
Recently, the Blairmont Station Management Committee donated two motor bikes to the Police ‘B’ Division for use specifically at the Blairmont Police Station, West Bank Berbice. The simple presentation ceremony was done at the Police Station.
The idea was in the making since 2010/2011 and was the initiative of Blairmont Estate General Manager, Hutton Griffith, who at the time was the Field Manager and Inspector Cynthia Kelly who was stationed at the Blairmont Police Station as a Sergeant. It came about after it was noted that the Station was short of transportation.
Andrew Karim, an executive member of the Management Committee, made special mention of Inspector Kelly whom he described as a role model and the driving force in acquiring the bikes.
He urged residents not sit on the fence and criticize but come forward and assist the police. The police, he said, are not magicians to know everything, but are working around the clock for little or no reward and must be commended. Improvements will only come if we the citizens come forward and be a part of the process.
Karim warned residents not to break the law and then turn round and talk bad about the police when you find yourself in trouble.
Officer in Charge of Operations, Superintendent Wayne De Harte, was very thankful to the business community. He urged others to emulate the achievements of the Blairmont Station management Committee.
The presentation only serves to highlight what hard work and togetherness can achieve. It also highlights the work of a vibrant Committee which has the station at heart, and is cognizant of how the police must execute their duties.
He gave the assurance that the bike will be used for the purposes intended, and will go a far way in helping to fight crime. Superintendent De Hearte expressed thanks to the members of the Committee on behalf of the GPF especially those in ‘B’ Division.
Officer in charge of sub Division No. three (West Berbice) Assistant Superintendent Elton Davidson also expressed gratitude on behalf of the force. He thanked the members for the donation of the bikes, which will enhance the forces crime fighting capability in the sub division.
Davidson stated that the bikes and the other new vehicle will put the police in a good stead to enhance their work. It will also help the police’s interaction with members of the public.
Also in attendance were traffic officers Deputy Superintendent, Dennis Stephens and Inspector Hook .
