Dear Editor,
Based upon the public servant salary increase the Minister of Finance said that all public servants earning a salary under 100,000 were entitled to an eight percent increased.
I was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal in January, 2015, then to full Corporal in January , 2017. My salary is just below 80,000 (take home) monthly.
When I received my salary for the month of November, I thought that at least my family would be a little better off for the Christmas holiday.
To my amazement, I had only a $6,300 increase and $3,000 was taken back for tax. I did not get a retroactive on my salary.
At the police Finance Office I was told that that is how the circular come from the Ministry of Finance.
The office further said that it explains that once you were promoted in January 2017, there will be no salary increase for those ranks.
The Minister should be aware the promotion was effective from the January 1, and everybody should be entitled to benefit.
I’m in the police force for 16 years and this is the first time something like this has happened.
How can someone have a Christmas package of $3, 000? That not possible.
In my view I said it was a mistake. I then contacted the Ministry of Finance and was told that nothing can be done once that is in the circular. Minister, please for a response on this issue.
Concerned police rank
