Vendor remanded for allegedly trafficking ganja

A vendor was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Wednesday and was remanded to prison for having 37 grams of marijuana in his possession.

The drug was for the purpose of trafficking. However, the defendant, Kelvin George, was granted bail on a simple larceny charge.
George, 22, of Lot 99 Durban Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown, denied the larceny charge which alleged that between August 4 and August 5 at Cornhill Street, Georgetown he stole a quantity of clothing valued at $524,000, property of Devon Macalister.
It was further alleged that on September 16, last, at Leopold Street, he had in his possession 37 grams of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking. The unrepresented man denied both charges.
Police Prosecutor Simone Payne objected to bail being granted to the defendant citing the serious nature of the offence and the penalty the charges attracts.
The objection was upheld by the magistrate and the defendant was remanded to prison.
Meanwhile, in the same courtroom a repeat offender was also remanded to prison on a robbery charge.
It is alleged that Sean Wright, on September 13, last, at Kitty bus Park while being armed with a scissors robbed Elroy Livan of one cellular phone and $25,000 cash.
The prosecutor objected to bail being granted to the defendant citing that the defendant is a repeat offender who has matters of a similar nature in court. The prosecutor added, that if bail is granted to the defendant he may not return to court for the trial.
The prosecution objection was upheld and the defendant was remanded to prison. ‘
Both men will make their next court appearance on October 4.
