Twenty-four-year-old Nekita Poole, who was arrested by police after allegedly stashing marijuana in a pillow, was yesterday remanded to jail on a drug trafficking charge by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, in the Georgetown Magistrates’
Courts.
Poole, who was represented by Attorney-at-Law Tiffany Jeffrey, denied the charged which alleged that on August 18, at Kitty, Georgetown, she had 252.2 grammes of cannabis (marijuana) in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore told the court that on the day in question, police were carrying out raids in the area when they descended on a house occupied by Poole and her four year-old son.
The Prosecutor said that police ranks were permitted to search the house by Poole, who told her son to go over by his aunt who resides in another house on the same lot.
According to Prosecutor Moore, Poole went into her bedroom and picked up her son along with the pillow and began acting in a suspicious manner. This, the prosecutor related, prompted police ranks to carry out a search on the pillow during which they found a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems concealed in a black plastic bag within.
Nevertheless, Prosecutor Moore opposed bail for the mother citing the nature and gravity of the charge. These objections were upheld by the Chief Magistrate , who instructed Poole to make another court appearance on September 11.
An analyst report is still outstanding from the case file.
