Recent sabotage to GTT fiber optic cable has left hundreds without services for approximately two weeks now.
Residents in Kuru-Kururu, on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway said that they have called in to the company on several occasions since connectivity was lost and were just told to “calm down” and that “we’re trying our best”, according to affected residents.
A resident teacher within the village expressed her dissatisfaction since she is also a student of the University of Guyana. She said that many of her assignments are overdue. She told of how she was told to be calm and that efforts are being made to resolve the issue.
Timothy Ramdass, a taxi driver, who is the sole bread winner for his home, stated that this situation costs him a lot, since he depends on his calls for income. He went on to state that this problem has been prevalent for approximately two weeks and within this period he has made several complaints which were to no avail.
Another teacher from the area stated that she had also called in and was told by a customer care representative that she knows nothing about the problem and will report the matter.
Public Relations Officer, Allison Parker, reported that GTT Chief Executive Officer, Justin Nedd, had said in a recent Press Conference that all services were fully restored to customers.
Parker explained that this case of sabotage (in Kuru-Kururu) is separate than that which the company recently experienced. She said this matter was reported on Friday.
She also stated that efforts are being made to have the issue rectified but was unable to specifically mention when.
