Shariff Bacchus, called ‘Chokadag’ , 42, a fisherman of 26 Albouystown , Georgetown, was yesterday remanded to prison for the murder of Chan Wen Wong called ‘Chiney man’ on July 20, last, at Meadow Bank Wharf.
The unrepresented man appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where he was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore told the court that the investigation into the matter is complete. Only the post mortem report is outstanding from the case file, he added.
Bacchus will make his next court appearance on August 14, for report. According to information the fisherman was stabbed at the Meadow Bank Wharf, East Bank Demerara.
Reports indicated that he was stabbed to the chest after he had an altercation with the accused.
On the day in question the men were parted by onlookers. Chan Wen Wong walked away only to be pursued by Bacchus who whipped out a sharp object and stabbed him.
