Jul 24, 2017 Letters
Dear Editor,
I write this short letter to express my regret and disappointment as it relates to a recommendation I made to a really close friend of mine (she’s like a sister to me). My friend was planning to get married in December 2017, so we proceeded on an extensive search to find a venue for her special day. After searching for days I came across a place (name mentioned) and recommended this venue to her since I was amazed by the elegant decor.
She decided to look further into my recommendation and she too fell in love with the decor and intimate atmosphere, hence she made reservations. A deposit of GYD 100, 000 was made to secure the place for her imminent wedding. However, she did not sign any legally binding documents that prohibit a refund in the event of an emergency. Unfortunately, her mother passed away and this tragedy hit her really hard; she was devastated for days, and as a result postponed the wedding.
When she approached the hotel management and explained her situation (in a state of bereavement) they refused to give her a refund. She even pleaded with them for a 50% refund if not all and they still refused to do such. This clearly shows how inconsiderate this company is. In attempting to avoid losing her money without receiving proper service she decided to make a request for a small ceremony. In her quest to have this ceremony, the hotel had the audacity to ask for GYD 50, 000 more to host this ceremony at the hotel.
Tell me general public; are businesses this inconsiderate and heartless? Even though she proceeded with the ceremony, some crappy finger food was served and this fuelled greater disappointment and further proves how sloppy the hotel’s hospitality services are. I do not live with regrets, but in this instance I certainly regret making such a recommendation to my friend. I hereby advise the general public to avoid using this hotel as a venue for events, since this company is out to exploit customers to keep their business a float. Also their lack of basic business tactics such as courtesy, consideration, and professionalism disqualifies them as an entity to host events.
