Investigators believe that the death of 33-year-old Eon Currency whose body was found with a gunshot wound to the head Sunday night at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) is vendetta-driven.
The body of the father of three was found slumped on a bicycle a few minutes after a young man had informed him that someone was waiting for him out on the road.
Kaieteur News was informed that the individual Currency was heading to meet was actually in the hospital where he is nursing a gunshot wound after being shot by the police last week.
That person was said to have been Currency’s “partner in crime” at one time. It is suspected that the individual might have sent his gang to kill the 33-year-old man.
Reports are that the person who is hospitalized and a gang from Agricola, East Bank Demerara (EBD) went to Tuschen some time last week to rob a shop.
However, Currency allegedly talked the gang out of it and they subsequently left. A few days later, the head of that gang was shot by the police.
The police are in possession of the individual’s name and will be visiting the hospital to question him.
Meanwhile, the victim’s reputed wife, Keisha Withrite yesterday maintained that her partner was not a bandit and that he had never been charged for a robbery.
She did confirm that the police searched her home many times but found nothing.
The only time the 33-year-old man was charged was when he hit her, and for operating a private car as a taxi.
Recalling what transpired, the woman said that when she left home around 07:30 hrs on Sunday to go to work, Currency was at home.
“He called me around 13:00 hrs and said that he will call me back but I didn’t hear from him.
After I finish work, he was supposed to pick me up at the (Parika) stelling but when I reach, I didn’t see him so I take a bus and went home,” Withrite said.
She added that when she reached home, she did not see her partner and immediately went out to look for him.
“I see the car and when I open the door, he wasn’t there. Before I walked away, three boys come and they tell me to walk up and I’ll see the police up the road,” she recalled.
According to the woman, when she went to the location, she saw the body of her husband lying on the roadway.
“I don’t know who would want to kill him but he was wearing three gold chains and that is gone,” she added.
Investigations are ongoing.
