Dear Editor,
Kindly permit me a little space in your columns to share the following: The GRA office in Essequibo does not have a standby generator. Whenever a blackout occurs, transactions cannot be done.
Taxpayers are asked to return when power is restored to pay their taxes and file their documents etc. Government is losing revenue as a result of this situation. For some time now the air conditioner has not been working. Staff personnel make use of fans in the office.
When there is a power outage the fans can’t work and the heat is unbearable. These conditions are unfit to work in. There is no proper parking for taxpayers transacting business there. The parking area is a pool (see attached pictures). Just two questions: WHO has the authority to remedy this inhumane situation and WHEN will it be fixed?
