First Division action in the Berbice Cricket Board’s 50-Over competition continued last weekend with two matches being played in the county.
At the Rose Hall, Canje, Welfare Centre, under brilliant sunshine, Young Warriors Cricket Club defeated the Rose Hall Canje Team by 15 runs in their match which was reduced to 36 overs due to overnight moisture.
Winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Rose Hall Canje dismissed the Young Warriors Batsmen for 135 in their 36 overs. Seon Hetmyer top scored with 46 followed by Linden Austin on 30. Kasim Khan and Vishal Mohabir contributed with 21 and 11 respectively, while all the other batsmen failed to reach double figures, including National Player Shimron Hetmyer who scored 8.
Bowling for Rose Hall Canje, Sanjay Khan took 2 for 17, Amir Rahaman 2 for 22, while Compton Hope, Andrew Williams and Mark Sampson took one each.
In reply to the 135 set by Young Warriors Cricket Club, Rose Hall Canje were bowled out for 120 in their allotted overs.
Over at the Bush Lot Ground in West Berbice, West Berbice had the better of the Bush Lot Team when they defeated them by 166 runs. Batting first, West Berbice scored 253 runs, with Rafael Estriado scoring 73, C. Sookra 44, Arthley Bailey 30, A. Dutchin 21 and Stefon Adams 22, while all the others contributed with single figures.
Bowling for the Bush Lot United team, Christopher Bissoon took 3 wickets, G. Gossai 2, A. Johnson 2 and J. Darsan 1. The Bush Lot United batsmen failed to chase the target set as they were dismissed for a paltry 87. Joel Dilchand was the only batsman to reach double figure for his side and ended up getting bowled for 14. All the other batsmen remained in single figures, as the West Berbice bowlers proved detrimental to them.
Bowling for West Berbice, Keith Fraser took 4 wickets, A. Bailey 2, C. Harry, Stefon Adams and A. Dennis one a piece.
The competition continues Sunday 16th July with the following Fixtures;
Zone A- Blairmont vs West Berbice at Blairmont, Bush Lot vs Young Warriors at Bush Lot, Rose Hall Canje vs Tucber Park at Rose Hall Canje.
Zone B – Albion vs Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club at Albion, Port Mourant vs Skeldon at Port Mourant, Upper Corentyne vs Police at Upper Corentyne Skeldon Community Centre.
