Dear Editor,
I didn’t write this article to create a debate or to launch a personal attack on anyone but first of all let me state that I am a junior police rank stationed in ‘E Division’ (Linden) for the past six years and I can testify about the current situation in this entire division.
It’s not surprising that our Commander and the Regional Chairman denied the factual allegations regarding the Chairman’s relationship with the police. However I want all civil minded Guyanese, including the Government reading this article and who would have read previous articles on this issue to ask themselves; (1) How come there were no allegations of such against the previous Chairman? (2) What was the Chairman who is also a Pastor doing at a Juvert on the microphone at 6am in the morning and what was he saying when the police attempted to shut off the music? (3) Why was Snr. Supt. Brutus, Sgt. George and the others transferred from that division?
Editor! I wish not to elaborate on this issue, but I would like the Commander, the Chairman and the Commissioner of Police to let their conscience be their guide. It shows clearly that those in administration are in the media preaching about creating a professional Police Force but behind the scenes the Force is being subject to political direction/interference.!
There are some of my colleagues who are prepared to stand their ground against any interference from the Chairman and accept the consequences, so the public can expect more ranks will be transferred. The Government must understand that we are in the 21st century where there is the presence of various recording devices, the presence of numerous media houses and more so civil rights organizations and it’s time to halt political direction in the Police Force.
It must also be noted that Police ranks in Region 10 and elsewhere voted for a CHANGE and we look forward to do our job without ‘Favor or Affection’ and in accordance with the law. I thank the Acting Prime Minister, Joseph Harmon for his visit concerning the issues and let it be known that the cover-up is not surprising; it’s the past continuing to happen. I would be grateful if Linden can have a PAUL SLOWE type Commander.

(Kaieteur News) – I am not surprised that electricity demand in Linden has surged by more than 135 per cent from its 2005 level. In fact, given the price at which electricity is supplied there, it would be surprising if demand had not surged. The figures tell the story. Electricity consumption...Sep 06, 2026
