Couple homeless after fire guts Aroaima home

A young couple is mourning their losses after fire gutted their wooden bungalow on

What’s left of the couple home.

Friday night while the rain poured, thunder roared and lightning flashed in Aroaima, Region Ten.
Twenty-six-year-old Delmar Osborne and his 27-year-old reputed wife, Sandra Johnson, are now wondering what their next move is.
According to neighbours the fire started around 23:00hrs and the house was quickly destroyed as no one was at home. Osborne who is a logger was at work at the time.
“The husband was in de backdam and de wife been by she parents. They ent save nothing. Everything gone; beds, gas stove, television set, fridge, music set, furniture and other household items.”
The couple who have no children estimated their losses at over $2M and cannot say how the fire started.

Regional Democratic Councillor, Sub Region #2, Region Ten, Elymuwell Barkoye, was very peeved that for a community such as Aroaima there is no fire tender and believes that one should be available for the community.
“I think that a fire tender and about three firemen should be in Aroaima. If one was here we might have been able to save the house. So I am asking the Regional Chairman and the Government to look into this with some urgency.”
