Two men yesterday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where they both denied the charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm on each other.
Magistrate Judy Latchman read the charge in which it is alleged that on May 8 at La Penitence, Georgetown, Colin Daly, 23, of Lot 23 East La Penitence unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm to Ryan Jonas.
Daly was represented by Attorney-at-Law Darren Wade who asked that his client be released on reasonable bail since his client has never been convicted before. Wade told the court that his client has a bullet lodged in his right hand, since he has been in police custody since May 9 and has not received medical treatment to extract the bullet.
Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves had no objection to bail being granted. The defendant was released on $60,000 bail.
It was further alleged that Ryan Jones on May 8 at La Penitence, Georgetown, discharged a loaded firearm at Colin Daly with the intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause him grievous bodily harm.
The nineteen-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by the magistrate. Jones was represented by Attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat who, in his application to secure bail for his client, told the court that his client was beaten by Daly last year and was dealt a chop to his back.
The attorney told the court that his client’s hand is severely chopped in several different places and it’s unlikely that he will ever be able to use the hand again.
Facts presented by the prosecutor stated that on the day in question around 20:20hrs, Daly was standing at a shop in East La Penitence drinking a Guinness when he was approached by Jones who fired several shots at him and one hit him in his right hand. The court heard that Daly went by his cousin and armed himself with a cutlass and dealt Jones several chops about his hand.
Bail was refused and Jones was remanded to prison. Both men will make their next court appearance on June 12.
