When 007 taxi driver Oswald Rambarran was executed on the night of September 11, last, investigators were provided with the names of two persons, who they were informed might have been responsible for the killing. But after months,
they are yet to make an arrest, and even the dead man’s relatives are getting frustrated at the fact that there has not been any progress in the death of the 42-year-old man.
Yesterday, a source who is familiar with the investigation said that it seems as if Rambarran’s killers vanished into thin air.
“We were provided with some information and after the killing, we made a few checks but we have not gotten anything. We were looking for two persons based on the information but we never found them,” the source pointed out.
He said that usually with such cases, the matter is sometimes “pushed under the rug” until there is some major breakthrough, and such is the case in this instance.
“If there is nothing, we are not going to go and pick up the case when there is a long list of other cases that need some work. If someone calls or comes in with some strong information, then we will relook at the file,” the source indicated.
Meanwhile, the victim’s relatives are annoyed, because they claim that every time they visit the station to find out about the status of the probe they are being told repeatedly that the matter is still being investigated.
Rambarran also known as ‘Downs’ of Middle Road , La Penitence, was shot to the head by gunmen on motorcycles in Albouystown after he was called to the area by a relative to deliver a meal.
At the time of the shooting, the taxi driver was sitting on a bench in front of his relative’s home conversing with two persons when the gunmen approached him and discharged several rounds before escaping on a motorcycle.
The two persons escaped unhurt. From all indications, Rambarran was the gunmen’s target.
The man’s wife, Dolly Yarde, is pleading with persons who witnessed the shooting of her spouse to come forward and help the cops, so that the case can be closed.
When questioned about any enemies her husband may have had, the woman insisted that he was not a trouble maker. “From the time I been with him I didn’t know him to be a trouble maker.”
The family suspected that the father of four might have been at the wrong place at the wrong time.
In June 2008, Rambarran was remanded to prison on a charge of escaping from lawful custody. It was alleged that he escaped from the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was being treated for gunshot wounds.
According to reports, Rambarran was shot during a high speed chase with police on mobile patrol after he and an accomplice were caught forcing a man into the trunk of a car.
