The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) has commenced its preparation for the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board inter county U19 tournament.
Chairman of Selectors of the BCB junior panel, Mr. Leslie Solomon has stated that the players are upbeat and ready for the intense competition. He added that much will be done to prepare the team to live up to the expectations of the new Administration of the BCB. The Clubs are fully supportive of the County’s team, and selection has been done for the final 28 members who will be trained over the next few days, a release from the BCB stated.
The release further stated that training will be conducted under the supervision of coaches Julian Moore and Adrian Amsterdam. The Players will be tested in physical fitness drills, since the BCB has now mandated fitness drills for cricketers who will be representing the county at that level.
The Berbice U19 team failed to win the Inter county title in 2016, but President (acting) of the BCB Mr. D. Somwaru is optimistic that things have changed for the better. “The players are now in structured training sessions, and are giving their utmost to do well. We are doing all we can to prepare them despite the odds,” the release went on.
The shortlisted players will be engaged in two 50-over matches and two three-day games before the final team is selected to represent the County.
