Jamil Charles, 29, of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, the brother of now dead notorious criminal Jermaine ‘Skinny’ Charles, was yesterday remanded to jail for a multimillion-dollar at Princess Ramada Casino.
Charles appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where he denied the allegation which stated that on April 29, 2016 at Providence, East Bank Demerara while being in the company of others and armed with a gun, he robbed Daniel Reynolds of $9M, property of the Princess Ramada Casino.
Wayne Griffith, 29 of Bagotville, West Bank Demerara; Junior Stewart, 30, of 141 Thomas Street, Kitty, Georgetown and Andre Blackman, 35, of 6 Middle Street, McDoom, East Bank Demerara, were all previously charged in connection with the Princess Ramada Casino robbery. The trio are currently out on bail.
According to information, the men armed with guns entered the casino and discharged several rounds. They relieved a security guard of his shotgun and ordered patrons and staffers to lie on the ground. It was reported that the accused also held a cashier at gunpoint and made off with local and foreign currency.
Soon after leaving the Chief Magistrate’s courtroom, Charles appeared before City Magistrate Judy Latchman where he also denied the allegation which read that on August 12, 2016 at 33 Robb Street and Orange Walk, Bourda, while armed with a gun, he robbed Juliet Kowlessar of $900,000 and a Bank of Guyana cheque, property of Sudesh Persaud.
Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves objected to bail citing the seriousness of the offence and the penalty the charge attracts. The prosecutor also pointed out that a firearm was used during the commissioning of the offence.
Gonsalves further told the court that the accused has pending matters in the Providence Magistrate’s Court, and the accused was positively identified by the victim and admitted to police in an oral statement.
Charles will make his next court appearance on May 8 where he will be appearing before the Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and May 15 he will appeared before City Magistrate Judy Latchman.
