The men who first made their appearance before Magistrate Fabayo Azore on March 9, and were remanded to prison, were yesterday arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’
Courts and were further remanded.
It is alleged that on March 7 at Omai Landing, Essequibo, Mark Sampson, 20, of Lot 19 Old Kara Kara, Linden had in his possession 450 grams of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Sampson was represented by Attorney-at-Law Clyde Forde who asked that his client be released on reasonable bail citing that his client is a shop assistant and the narcotics were not found on his person.
Dexter Cameron, 23, of Central Mahaicony, on the day in question had in his possession 892 grams of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Cameron was represented by Attorney Charlena Fung-a-Fat who told the court that her client is the father of one and the narcotics were found in a mining camp under a bed.
Fung-a-Fat further stated that the room in which the narcotics was found is used by multiple occupants and could have been anyone’s.
Lastly was Eldeus Paddy, 27, of 134 Burnham Drive, Linden, a father of three who had in his possession 73 grams of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking. He too was represented by Attorney Charlena Fung-a-Fat who told the court that her client is a miner and has no previous conviction.
However Police Prosecutor Simone Payne told the court that on the day in question when the Police carried out the search on Paddy the narcotics were found in a pink pouch around his neck.
The trio all pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to them by the Magistrate.
Prosecutor Payne objected to bail for all the defendants citing the serious nature of the offence and the penalty it attracts.
The men will make their next court appearance on March 19 at the Mahdia Magistrates’ Court.
