Prayers need a little push too

(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh deh gat some people in dis country who gat problems. And dem problems ain’t no small problem like phone battery dead or Wi-Fi slow. Dem is serious problems. Life-and-death problems.

Every day you does see a sad story pun social media. Somebody sick. Somebody need medical treatment overseas. Somebody got a operation wah cost more money than dem could see in ten lifetimes. Somebody need help fuh save a life.

And because de treatment overseas expensive, de family does turn to social media and beg fuh help. Dem does put up de story, post de medical report, show de hospital bill, and ask de public fuh contribute a lil something.

Now, dis is where things does get interesting. Because Guyanese people got a special talent. We could sympathise without spending a cent.

Somebody could post that dem child desperately need US$50,000 fuh medical treatment and de first response from somebody is: “May God continue to strengthen you.”

Another one seh: “My heart is broken.”

Another seh: “Praying for a miracle.”

And somebody else does put three praying-hand emojis.

Dem boys seh, if praying-hand emojis coulda pay hospital bills, Guyana woulda have the best healthcare system in de Caribbean.

Imagine you reach de hospital cashier and seh, “I ain’t got no money, but I got 47 praying-hand emojis.”

De cashier might pray too — but probably fuh security to escort you out.

We does say, “God bless you.” But sometimes de person ain’t asking fuh God bless dem. Dem asking if we could help.

De person already praying. Dem need somebody to put $5,000, $10,000 or even $500 behind de prayer.

Now, nobody saying everybody got money to give. Some people genuinely can’t help financially. And there is nothing wrong with offering a prayer, encouragement or emotional support. But if you can help and all you doing is typing “praying for you,” then something missing.

Dem boys remember de old story bout de man who prayed every day fuh 25 years to win de lottery.

Every morning he pray. Every night he pray. Twenty-five years pass and he never win.

Eventually de man dead and meet up with the Creator. He vex. He seh, “But Lord, I prayed every day fuh 25 years. I served you faithfully. I asked you to let me win de lottery. Why you never answer me?”

The Creator look at him and seh: “Man, at least you coulda buy a lottery ticket!”
