A 62-year-old motorcyclist was among two people killed in separate road accidents in less
than 24 hours.
Maurice Moseley of 235 Lamaha Park, East La Penitence, was on his way to work when he was struck down and killed at the intersection of Hadfield and Smyth Streets, Georgetown, around 06:00 hrs yesterday.
According to information received, Moseley who worked part-time with a beverage company up the East Coast Demerara, was heading north on Smyth Street when he was struck down by a van driven by a Brazilian National, who was heading east on Hadfield Street.
The victim was pronounced dead when he was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Kaieteur News understands that the Moseley had the right of way and the driver failed to stop.
The driver was taken in police custody where a breathalyzer test confirmed that he was not under the influence of alcohol.
Moseley’s daughter, Sheraita said that her father would usually leave home around five in the morning where he would first drop off his wife, Paulette, at work, and then head to his place of employment. When the accident occurred, the pensioner had already dropped off his wife.
The young Moseley said that she last saw her father Thursday night and he was quite jolly. “He was a jovial person and always gave good advice. He gave us no indication that he was not
going to be around much longer.”
Maurice Moseley leaves to mourn his wife, five children and grandchildren.
In another incident, a 54-year-old seamstress was killed around 20:00 hrs on Thursday after a canter truck struck her at Parika, East Bank Essequibo.
Bernice Gordon of 40 Parika, East Bank Essequibo, was rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The mother of three was heading to the junction to pick up her daughter when the driver of the truck, who was heading in the opposite direction, reportedly drove into her as she was walking on the parapet.
She was reportedly flung several feet away and was seen bleeding profusely from the head. The woman’s daughter, Carol Pellew, said that she spoke to her mother just two hours prior to the accident and she was all excited.
“We were supposed to meet today (yesterday) at a family function and she was really excited about it,” a devastated Pellew related. She lamented that her mother was walking in the corner when she was struck down and killed.
The driver of the vehicle is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
