A woman, whose three-year-old daughter was allegedly raped by her stepfather back in October last, is upset at the pace of the police investigation regarding the matter.
A medical examination done in the presence of a police officer at the Georgetown Public Hospital had confirmed that the child had been sexually molested.
The matter has been under investigation by the police since October, and statements have been taken repeatedly but the suspect—a security guard—has not been charged as yet.
A police source yesterday explained that there was a “mix-up” with the name of one of the persons who gave a statement to the police, hence there was the delay.
Kaieteur News was informed that the file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.
Relating what transpired, the woman said that having known the man for more than three years, she permitted him to move into her East Bank Demerara home and live with her and her six children, as well as other relatives, for little over a year.
Kaieteur News was informed that the three-year-old child slept with the couple.
The woman related that in October last, she became ill and was admitted to the hospital for more than a week. During this time the child and her stepfather slept on the same bed.
‘The day I was going home from the hospital, my daughter called and tell me that something happened and when I go home they tell me that a neighbour saw the child demonstrating a sexual act to another child,” the woman recounted.
Reports are that the neighbour immediately called the child and questioned her. It was then revealed by the child that she had been raped by her step-father.
She was taken to the police station and then to the hospital where she was examined.
The suspect was arrested and later released and further statements were required to be taken before the matter could reach to the court.
