Dec 05, 2016 Letters
Dear Editor;
I am writing this letter to bring awareness to an increasing trend that I have seen around Georgetown. On Thursday 1st December, at 2 PM in the afternoon, at the corners of Camp and Lamaha Streets, I noticed three young boys soliciting donations from the cars that had stopped at the traffic light.
I think by now most Guyanese have realized that these solicitations for “donations” using worn out and reused forms are nothing more than a scam.
The primary issue here however is: why are these young children not in school, during school hours and on a school day? Whoever it is that is organizing these children to solicit “donations” is using these children to their own benefit, and parents should be made aware of this.
I am sure that many other persons would have seen children asking for money many times now. Is this to become a new norm and be acceptable behavior for Guyanese, or will some government body put a stop to it?
