Brain George a/k” Benjie”, a 31-year-old labourer, was found guilty by a jury in Essequibo for killing 24-year-old, Jermaine McKenzie called,”Royo”, in 2011.
He was sentenced on Friday to 11 years’ imprisonment by Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in the Suddie High Court in Region Two. The killing occurred at a place called “Blue Mountain”, located in the Cuyuni back dam.
According to the case, ‘Benjie’, whose address was given as Tassarine Village, Middle Mazaruni, worked as a labourer before his incarceration. The report further stated that on December 20, 2011, at “Blue Mountain” back dam an argument ensued between the two men.
It was reported that McKenzie dealt “Benjie” several slaps angering him and causing him to reach for a knife with which he “Benjie” inflicted a single stab to McKenzie, puncturing his lung and killing him.
“Benjie” initially pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter. A probation report was warranted and submitted in the High Court.
McKenzie, the deceased, was 24-years-old.
